The 17th century Bell Inn at Langford is about five miles south of Burford and is in the Times list of best British 100 hotels.

Going back 20 years ago it was run by a charming couple (Heidi and Tony) and without doubt it was one of the best pubs in the Cotswolds. They moved on to do better and big things while the pub went through the change including closure.

But it’s back with a bang with good simple food, a straight forward wine list, spirits and beer selection. And there are eight stylish room which feature free WI-Fi, flat-screen TVs, and tea and coffee making facilities, as well as en suite bathrooms.

There is a large beer garden, cosy bar areas and everything is freshly prepared everyday with seasonal menus regularly changed.

The only drawback is that a number of so called food experts said what a wonderful place it was and a number of customers were disappointed when these standards were not reached.

The Bell can offer anyone staying there a range of pursuit days ranging from deer stalking, coarse fishing, driven game birds, simulated game, pigeon shooting, clay pigeon shooting, and walked-up rough shooting. But no motoring!
