The Highworth Hotel, which is at the gateway of the Cotswolds on the road from Swindon to Burford, should be one of those places which should be in your address book for frequent visits. Sadly it isn’t.
While the staff are lovely, friendly and attentive, the food is barely average.
The Highworth goes through stages from good to poor. At the moment it’s the latter.
Accommodation is said to be good for this elegant Georgian town house which must have been quite wonderful when it was in its heyday.
There are original wooden beams, charming fireplaces and nice warm rooms.
The most exciting part on a visit is the narrow passage through the arch to the car park at the rear, especially if you’re in a 4×4!
I hope it gets back to the quality which it used to display some years ago.
